About Me:
I will sit watching a three-hour movie in a language I don't understand, just because the cinematography is beautiful. My partner will be snoring on the couch next to me. If there is a beautiful sunset and I have my camera, I will take a hundred photos, just because. I don't care if it's "chocolate box", I love chocolate boxes - and the contents! I've been known to jump out of bed in the middle of the night to photograph the moonlight on the clouds. When I have the time, I can sit in a coffeeshop for hours just watching the people - seeing them through a mind's-eye lens. I'm often tempted to go up and ask if I can take their photo - I don't because that might be, well, just a bit weird. That's the thing about being a photographer - once it grabs you, you never look at anything in quite the same way ever again.

How I work:
I don't want to use a bunch of flowery catch-words to describe my photography - been there, done that. I work on the basis that this is your day, not my photoshoot. You've hired me to use my skills to capture the essence of your day, to tell the story in pictures - whether it's the emotions and the people, the spontaneous moments, the fine details, the magic between you and your partner, or the great party had by all at your reception. I like to keep things simple, for you to have fun with your photosession. I don't go for stiff posing, but I will help you by giving direction - we create stunning shots together. I'm not there to aquire my next "winner" portfolio picture at all costs - that is just the result of a great day! I don't like to label myself as a particular "style" - again, catch words are just that. Different aspects of the day require a different approach - the overall result should encompass more than just one "style". I do believe that in photography, artistic vison needs to be supported by strong technical skills - a wedding day can include every possible challenge a photographer needs to be able to deal with. I've worked in other forms of both physical and visual arts, and that probably does influence the way I take photographs. My clients nearly always comment on how unobtrusive I am - and I will work with you to make sure that the photography fits seamlessly in to your day, without overpowering it.

What you might want to know...
This is the stuff to reassure you that it's safe to hire me! I made the career-switch to photographer several years ago, after many years of just dreaming. I studied Fine Art black and white photography and printing at the Cape Town School of Photography, and also trained and worked as a wedding photographer in the UK in 2000. I've been photographing weddings and events in South Africa since then. I'm a member of the SWPP, which is an international organisation, based in the UK, for professional image-makers. I've worked on magazine shoots in Mauritius, Zanzibar and South Africa, had work comissioned for Shape magazine, and work published in several bridal magazines. I've only ever got around to entering one competition (terrible at remembering to do it) - the Fair Lady Bride Photographer of the Year 2006 competition - and received a lovely write-up and some pictures published as a runner up - no I didn't win! Watch this space, though. I have every intention of entering more competitions, those awards do look so impressive on a webpage!
